All Saints' Day Mice and Comacchio Eels

The Topini d’Ognissanti are mouse-shaped treats made from classic ciambella dough with chocolate or raisin “eyes.” Originally from Comacchio, they are said to have originated after a miracle performed by the Virgin Mary, who drove away an invasion of mice from the Raibosola cemetery. Since that day, on All Saints’ Day, it has been a tradition to prepare as many little mice as there are family members to ward off a repeat of the incident.
Comacchio's “Anguilline” cookies, inspired by the city's lagoon tradition, have a distinctive elongated shape and are flavored with vanilla or lemon. Perfect with tea or coffee, they evoke the history of Comacchio.
