The wild carrot is widespread in Europe, Asia and North Africa and is cultivated in all the temperate regions of the world. It began to be cultivated on a regular basis in Europe during the Renaissance, resulting in a number of flavourful varieties. In our province, it is grown mainly in the Mesolano area, where, thanks to the well-developed horticulture practised on the sandy soils, various varieties of radicchio are also cultivated, such as the white and red Chioggia varieties.
